Looks like we’re in the thick of summer! Our days have been filled with backyard games, lots of crafting and adding to our book nook:) The summer months are such a fun time for learning! While it doesn’t usually remain quite as “stick to the curriculum” at our house during summer break, I have a fun time coming up with themes that still inspire a joy of learning for my son like dinosaurs, under the sea, down on the farm, the solar system, around the world and so much more! I hands down include loads of opportunities for crafting and hands-on learning activities.
I am a huge supporter of ETSY and on a recent browse I came across some really awesome activity ideas for kids that would be perfect for summer learning! I thought I’d share these with you all!
This cool kids activity brings nature inside. Kids of all ages will enjoy this craft, as well as adults.
The owner of the shop details she began making butterfly suncatchers in 2013 as a playgroup activity for her kids. After seeing butterflies and birds at the botanical gardens, they came back home and crafted these sun catchers. Everyone loved them so much, she decided to offer them in her shop. Each shape is based on one of her hand drawn designs-unique to Hello Sprout.
My son and I chose the Flyers Kit. It included
- 2 butterflies
- 2 dragonflies
- 2 bees
This was such a fun activity! My son was so excited to know that after completing this craft it would be a beautiful suncatcher to hang in his window! We really enjoyed this and will definitely return to hellosprout to try some of the other themed kits!
Some of my fondest childhood memories include sitting outside on a summer day enjoying a popsicle! With this activity you can make your own!
This is a very simple summer art and craft made with a wooden piece, non-toxic water-based paints and stickers to make your very own unique creations! Older kids will enjoy making the colors go in a pattern like a landscape while even young kids will enjoy painting with the two, one or three colors.
What an absolute WIN considering all of our current situations. Quarantine has forced us all to really put our thinking caps on when it comes to outdoor recreation. Parks in our area are still closed. We’ve made the most of the backyard but this set can make life easier!
The Backyard Box is filled with simple nature activity prompts that will have your child sorting leaves, finding animal homes, drawing pictures in the dirt, and more! Other themes include:
Again, right on time considering quarantine mandates. This would make for a great indoor activity! It also is great for hand and eye coordination and counting as well! Toyingaround also offers these adorable little wooden “family” sets:
I have been wanting to get one of these forever! It would make for a great display in a play room or learning space. They could be painted and/or decorated to reflect members of the family! I love it:)
I great activity that promotes creative expression and name familiarity!
These have been so popular! Add some flare and fun to coloring activities with these popsicle crayons.
Wishing you all tons of Summer Fun!
I hope you all enjoyed this round up!
